 Beyond the Walls – Breaking the Cycle Jesus taught us to pray that God’s will may one day be done on earth as it is in heaven. And yet human history reads like an endless cycle of violence and war. This legacy is apparent as we broadcast again this week from Seville, in Andalusia, Spain. Seville is an ancient city that has been conquered in turn by the Carthaginians, the Romans, the Vandals, the Visigoths, and the Islamic Caliphate, before its final reconquest by the Christian Kingdom of Castille in 1248. With Spain’s further conquests in the Western hemisphere, the city became the center of the Empire’s trade, as the treasures from the New World poured into the Old. Despite Jesus’ teaching that God’s heavenly kingdom is peaceable, Christians have perpetrated much violence in Christ’s name. Join us as we reflect on our complex legacy and consider how we can work to “break the cycle” of violence that we have inherited. Beyond the Walls – Breaking the Cycle.
