Mitchell, Lloyd Carlyle
September 29, 1936 - July 4, 2023 Carlyle passed away peacefully at University Hospital in London, with family by his side. Born in Thessalon, Ontario, Carlyle (Mitch) led a life of many ups and downs, changes and new experiences. A short stint in the RCAF led Carlyle to eventually becoming Captain in the Mississauga Fire Department, and he valued the years of helping others in need, his occupational choice being supported by his strong devotion to the Community of Christ. During his retirement, he used his skills with wood, and spent many hours in the 'shop' making beautiful and unique pieces for family and friends, enjoying a break after his work in his sauna. During the colder months of fall, Carlyle would head up to the hunt camp with Ron P. and friends to hunt. Hunting often consisted of sitting on a favourite log and watching nature go by, then enjoying some chili with the group back at the cabin. Many summers and other holidays were spent in Carberry Manitoba at the Keachie's, his 'adopted' family, Cam, Norma, Alex, Margy-Jo, Lyn and Jean. Cam and Norma have since passed on, but Carlyle remained close to their daughter Margy-Jo Draycott, and valued her friendship. The stories of Carlyle's journey through life are many and could fill a book. His last words were 'I had a good life'. That is all any of us can hope for. Carlyle's last year and a half was spent at Amica in London, where he (and Ann) enjoyed the kindness and care of the Amica staff making it home for him. Carlyle's passing has been preceded by his first wife, Gloria Irene Mitchell (Goodwill) 2006, Son, Robert Gary Mitchell, 2007, Grandson, Kyle Milton Abel 1992. Carlyle's passing is being remembered by his family and friends, second wife Ann Mitchell (Winegarden, Moore), who has been a wonderful companion in Carlyle's last years. His children, James, Beth and Sandi, stepchildren, David and Sarah, 9 grandchildren, and 2 step grandchildren will all miss the stories, advice and companionship their father/Poppa gave them. Carlyle will be interred in Grand Valley next to Gloria with his beloved dog Bear following cremation at In Memorium in Grand Valley. On Friday, August 11 at 11am there will be a Graveside service at Union Cemetery (across the bridge). A catered lunch will follow at In Memoriam Funeral Home 28 Main Street North Grand Valley ON L9W 5S7. Millard, Jennifer Cherished, loved, wife and best friend of Todd Millard.
