Veazey shares this letter of counsel with the church detailing changes in the World Church Leadership Council.
Preface The guidance and information in this letter of counsel follows prayerful consideration of individual circumstances and the needs of the church during challenging times. I am grateful for the companionship of the Holy Spirit, which provides insight and assurance in these matters. The transitions presented in this letter do not require any action by the World Conference. The First Presidency has continued to monitor the progression of COVID-19 and the recommendations from professional health organizations and local governments. While health organizations continue to express caution, local governments are beginning to relax stay-at-home orders and make provisions for businesses and churches to reopen with modified in-person gatherings. The Presidency has been prayerful in how to guide the church in this next phase.
After consulting the World Church Leadership Council, which provides a global perspective, we are offering these recommendations. President Veazey shares his conviction and experience of peace and assurance that God is moving us toward fuller embodiment of the gospel, even in the midst of difficult situations.

Amid the unique challenges and opportunities of this year’s COVID-19 pandemic, the Canadian Council of Churches is hosting an online ecumenical Pentecost prayer service that will allow us to “come together in one place” (Acts 2:1) in ecumenical friendship and prayer. The season of Pentecost has always held a special significance for the ecumenical movement. With it comes the promise of new life through the arrival of the Holy Spirit, and a reminder of the unity we share, which has been forged with God’s help across differences. Leaders of CCC member churches from coast to coast to coast will gather with us as we look together to an uncertain yet hope-filled future. Prayers, Scripture readings, and reflections will be offered in English and French. Please Note: The event is free but requires advance registration via Eventbrite. Highlights of the service:
The Rev. Amanda Currie, Moderator of the 2019 General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Canada, and The Most Rev. Pierre Goudreault, Roman Catholic Bishop of Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pocatière, will offer brief homiletic reflections. Other service leaders include:The Rt. Rev.
