On June 3rd, members of Sharing Love in Mission Congregation of Community of Christ met the director of the Chatham Kent Restorative Justice Program for a cheque presentation to support their wonderful work of helping young people who have encountered issues with the law to find a route to a better lifestyle. Their amazing program has an 85% success rate with preventing repeat offenders. Over this past month, the Sharing Love in Mission community held a fundraiser and matched the proceeds of that fundraiser with money from the mission portion of their budget. With the support of members and friends we were able to present to Restorative Justice a cheque for $1000 to support their ongoing work in Chatham Kent. This commitment of Sharing God’s Love with associations who perform valuable work in our community and around the world is what we feel called to do as our attempt to fulfill the mission of Jesus Christ. Over the last 12 months, even though the pandemic has made it difficult to have contact with others, we have found ways to support organizations that uphold the values we share in our Enduring Principles. We have sent financial assistance to institutions upholding Indigenous People, the Black Historical Society in Chatham, World Accord, the Homeless Shelter, and the Pride community of Chatham Kent. We also ran a successful "Timmie’s" card program where members and friends were given Tim Horton's Cards and were asked to share them with anyone they met who they felt needed a meal. The program was so successful over the winter that it will be utilized again this coming fall and winter. We are so thankful for the generous support of our congregation in Community of Christ. Climate Webinar ”Through Crises Toward Transformation: Systemic Solutions - Transforming to a Circular Economy" Join us on Sunday, June 13 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. EDT via online. In this session, we start examining the pervasive structural issues that shape our world, in this case the basic economic model. Our current practice is a Create-Use-Discard economy that results in ravaged mountains, toxic tailing ponds, abusive child labour, abandoned oil wells, and mountains of trash. Lugano Kapembwa will share an alternative model: The Circular Economy. From the ground up, once new resources enter this modular system, the model tracks resources and keeps re-using and replacing them as long as possible. Lugano is co-founder and CEO of Loopcycle, a circular technology platform embedding lasting traceability that redefines how customers manage, recover and resell their used products. He also worked on a $5 billion project, delivering sustainability and resource efficiency programs as Energy and Environment Lead for Canary Wharf Management, the landlord arm of Canary Wharf Group—owners of the 128 acre estate and mini-city district in London, UK. Lugano holds a M.Sc. in Law and Environmental Science and a B.Sc. in Environmental Science. Join follow-up conversations on these dates:
