 Cecil Morgan Smith
August 18, 1939 - June 21, 2022 It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Cecil Morgan Smith, age 82 years, on June 21, 2022 in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Cecil was born August 18, 1939 in Wiarton, Ontario to Hannah and Franklin Smith. He attended Colpoy's Bay Schoolhouse, Wiarton District High School and later Clarkson University in Potsdam, New York, earning his master’s degree in Civil Engineering. He came to Thunder Bay in 1966 where he worked for the region and district, eventually landing at Northern Development and Mines in 1979, retiring at age 55, after 29 years of service. Cecil was a quiet and introspective man, loved dearly by many. He devoted his life to his faith. He was a Pastor and long-time member of the Community of Christ. Survived by his beloved son, Jeremy (Meaghan) and granddaughters, Hannah and Emma as well as numerous extended family. Predeceased by his loving wife of 43 years, Linda (2012); his parents and siblings. A graveside service for Cecil will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 10:00 am in Sunset Memorial Gardens. All family and friends are welcome to attend. Arrangements have been entrusted to the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma. March 03, 1925 ~ June 24, 2022 Bertha was the daughter of Francis and Lottie Shaw of Kimball, Ontario. She had three siblings, Leslie Shaw, J.R. Shaw and Dolly MacDonald. She lived most of her life in Mississauga, Ontario before moving to Corunna, Ontario in 2003 where she lived out the rest of her days. As she had wished, Bertha died peacefully in her sleep in her own home. She was 97 years old. Bertha was a loving mother to Karen Atkinson, Barbara LeFeuvre and her husband Don, and Robert Atkinson and his wife Sharon. She also loved her grandchildren Kerry, Wayne, John, Amanda, Carolyn and Laura, and her great-grandchildren Gavyn, Paxtynn, Ryan, Sebastian, Hudson and Skylar. Bertha was a woman of faith, which sustained her through numerous health issues including a stroke at birth, and mobility challenges in her later years. She was an active member and generous benefactor of Community of Christ throughout her life. For Bertha, life was all about family. That included her extended family: her brothers and sister and their spouses, her nieces and nephews and their spouses, and her great-nieces and great-nephews. She looked forward with great anticipation to any event which could bring the whole family together. She was particularly interested in the lives of her children and grandchildren; where they were living, how they were doing, and what they were planning for the future. She provided incredible support to each of them without ever interfering in their lives. She shared her wisdom freely, but only if you asked for it. Bertha was an amazing mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and great aunt. Though she is gone, our cherished memories of beautiful times spent with her will last forever. Funeral Details A Celebration of Life/Informal Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2022 from 11am to 1pm at STEADMAN BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, BRIGDEN- 3040 Brigden Road, Brigden Ontario N0N 1B0. A graveside service will follow at Moore Union Cemetery – 171 Moore Line, Mooretown, Ontario N0N 1M0. Donations Sympathy may be expressed through donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice. June 26, 2022 At his residence on Sunday June 26th, 2022, Michael Smith of Chatham passed away in his 43rd year. Cherished son of Andrew Smith (the late Barbara) of Chatham. Loving husband of Anthony Smith. Dear brother of Travis and his wife Arlyn Villalobos and sister-in-law Carina Fraser, and Rennata Lopez. Predeceased by his brothers Edward Smith-Kuiper and Andrew Smith, and sister Shannon Smith. He will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to the Alexander & Houle Funeral Home, 245 Wellington St. West, Chatham, on Friday July 1st, 2022, with visiting from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. The funeral service for Michael will be conducted from the chapel of the funeral home on Saturday July 2nd, 2022, at 1 pm with Pastor Greg Simpson of St. Andrew’s United Church officiating. We are hiring a Waterfront Supervising Lifeguard to lead the team, a Waterfront Lifeguard, and a Junior Waterfront Lifeguard to create our team. We are also looking for 2 Waterfront Lifeguards (not on the team) who would be available to guard at Erie Beach Reunion.

Lifeguards do not have to be members of Community of Christ, however, they do need to be a Registered Youth Worker. If they do not have this certification, we may be able to have them attend the course before the camps to receive it or complete the online course (time is of the essence). A service of celebration was held in her honour June 5.  This summer, Community of Christ is hoping that we can all continue our conversation and reflection on Jesus the Peaceful One and on Nonviolence.
