CEM 2020 Special Conference is Coming Up!

Many of us look forward to gathering for Mission Conference to greet friends who we have not seen in awhile, to learn what's happening in CEM and to participate in important decisions for our mission. This year, gathering safely means gathering virtually.

Generally, Melissa opens our meeting with a bundle of announcements. Here's this year's announcements for those of you joining from home…

• We feel confident that you will know where the washrooms and emergency exits are located.
• Snacks of all sorts are allowed.
• We highly doubt that there will be any issues with parking!
• Pets are also permitted.
• There will not be a lost and found.
• Confusion over garbage sorting will not likely be an issue.
• You are welcome to get up for a stretch at any time during the meeting.
• And, masks are optional!

 
Plan to Have Lunch with Our Mystery Guests
When you join the ZOOM meeting on Saturday, October 24 starting at 11:30 a.m., Delegates and Ex-officio will check in with Melissa to be included in the Credentials Report. Then we will all have lunch together with special guest ministers from CEM and beyond. Join the conversation!

Conference is for Everyone  
It's for everyone (not just delegates and ex-officios). Business brings us together but we are enriched by our engagement with each other. A special campfire is being planned for everyone with Apostle Art Smith on Saturday evening. You won't want to miss the fun and laughter or the warmth of the gathering. Ron Harmon is our special guest speaker on Sunday. Stay tuned to be uplifted and encouraged for the road ahead.
 
New Procedures
Pastors have received a package of information regarding how many delegates your congregation is allotted, how to select delegates and how to register. Once congregational lists are submitted, delegates and ex-officio will receive further information. The conference booklet will be made available electronically.

Training Sessions for Voting
Conducting a virtual business meeting will require a learning curve. Training sessions are scheduled to familiarize everyone with ZOOM and Poll Everywhere, the platform we will use to vote on resolutions:

• Tuesday, October 20 at 7 p.m.
• Wednesday, October 21 at 3 p.m.
• Friday, October 23 at 7 p.m. 

In order to vote, delegates and ex-officios will require a device connected to the internet i.e. computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone.
 
Pre-legislative Sessions
Delegates and ex-officios will be equipped with an understanding of the business to be presented to the conference body.

• Wednesday, October 14, 7 p.m.
• Thursday, October 15, 7 p.m.

*Please note, both sessions will present the same material. Please choose one session to attend.
