JOAN (ARNOLD) SHEPHERDSON It is with heartfelt sadness that the family announces the passing of Joan Mildred Ashmore (Arnold) Shepherdson on September 16, 2022 at the Temiskaming Lodge, where she has been cared for since May 17, 2017. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. Joan was 89 years old on July 3, 2022. She and her husband, Clair Shepherdson, celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on July 18, 2022. Joan’s life revolved around her music. She was an accomplished pianist and accompanist and had received many accolades from teachers, adjudicators, other musicians and individuals. She started taking piano lessons when she was six years old from Ruby Dunn Wathen, and over the years played for literally hundreds of children for solos, duets or in choirs, particularly for the Temiskaming Music Festival every year. She was also the accompanist for several of the local adult choirs in the area. Prior to 2017, Joan played the piano or organ at Community of Christ in New Liskeard for over 60 years. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Christina Arnold and her two sisters; Jacqueline (Mrs. Jack Kincaid) in January 2005 and Jeanne Arnold in August 2018. Joan is survived by her husband, Clair Shepherdson, of 69 years and their three children; Debra (Gary Whitworth), Daniel (Monika) and Jane Cameron. Their family grew over the years to 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. We will all miss her very much. Her extended family of many in-laws, nieces and nephews and cousins will remember her and her musical contribution to society. We are so grateful for the tender and competent care provided to her during her stay at the Temiskaming Lodge. We all give a huge thank you to Dr. Don Davies, the nursing staff, and all the other care givers at the Lodge for their kindness, compassion and loving care. Memorial donations may be made to World Accord, Cancer Care at Home, or any medical or charitable organization of your choice. Her cremation has taken place so there will be a Celebration of Life memorial held at some future date. Beyond the Walls – The Lost is Found The Lost Sheep and the Lost Coin are two parables that Jesus uses to show us the contrast between the “lost” and the “found.” Let us explore together this theme remembering how different ministers have approached this dichotomy: Danny Belrose, Linda Booth, Elray Henricksen, Noelle Gaffka, Zilphia Martin IV, and Roger Dodson. Thank you for inviting someone to participate! Beyond the Walls – The Lost Is Found. We hope to see you there on Sunday, September 11, at 12:00 PM or 6:00 PM EDT. 6 September 2022 This letter presents counsel for World Conference consideration and action. These transitions and calls have become evident through the guidance of the Holy Spirit during mutual discernment with other quorum and council leaders. Background information is provided to help the church become more familiar with the persons named and the gifts they will bring or have brought to their callings. The calls will be presented formally to the World Conference for approval according to established procedures. Sunday, September 18 & 25 5 PM ET Where: ZOOM Online Ministry Our first Fall webinar brings the dangers of climate change into our own backyard, as we highlight the problems that threaten our own Community of Christ campgrounds: Samish Island, Camp Buckhorn, and others. To summarize only the threats, however, simply adds to the sense of hopelessness and despair that can overwhelm us. What if we were to tend the land on which our churches and campgrounds sit as truly sacred space? By using the power of our religious imagination, we can explore new possibilities for using our campgrounds as centers for renewing and restoring creation. Join us to explore the climate threat in the September 18th webinar. Return on September 25th to brainstorm ways for our local sacred spaces to develop programming as centers for ecological and cultural restoration of the land. Encourage your campground boards and advocates to join the webinar and conversation in September, to add their creative imaginations to the possibilities for the future. If you registered for a past webinar or conversation, you do not need to register again.
Open to people of all faiths and traditions. This is an online ministry sponsored by the Greater Pacific Northwest USA Mission Center for Community of Christ. The North American Climate Justice Team are the planners, with members from GPNWMC, Canada East, Canada West, IWMC, SPMC, and SPIMC. We are looking for a team of 3-4 persons who are gifted with skills in technology and are willing to volunteer their time to support CEM activities and events. If you are comfortable with computers, zoom, social media platforms, etc, we could use your help. We need at least 3 persons to help with our virtual CEM conference in October 2022.
