Or perhaps spirituality seems too concrete a word for the lingering hunger, sown in us by youthful or distant ‘’God-experiences”, to explore our longing for the One who knows us and longs to be known. For all of us these are times when we enter new spiritual territory and discover we can’t read the terrain. The signposts stand mute or may even lead us astray. All we seem left with is a yearning. Themes we’ll explore include: “When the Signposts Fail,” “Meandering in the Wilderness,” and “Oases in the Desert.” Join a special online communion service with ministry in French and English this Trinity Sunday, June 7th. This note is to confirm that all CEM congregations and campgrounds are in a holding pattern of remaining closed until at least August 31. Only maintenance and repairs are permitted by five or less unrelated people (preferably from no more than two households) for these purposes. The provincial standards of social distancing, face coverings and sanitary applications are mandatory on our church properties. This also complies with our World Church risk management insurance policy. Our Mission Centre is in collaboration with World Church to prepare for the reopening of congregations after September 1 only if provincial standards permit with restrictions of the number of people, etc. CEM is assembling a Congregation Reopening Team who are preparing resources and policies from World Church and Canadian authorities to create a mandatory training session with each congregation to be presented via Zoom for congregations wishing to reopen at the allowable time. Please stay tuned for further details over the next few weeks as societal health policies evolve. May our collective voices be heard. by Kerry Richards, CEM President I want to share my hope for peace specifically for the American people of all races, demographics and cultures. The focus today is upon the centuries old systemic violence and disrespect of worth towards the black community. My heart aches with yours for the individual personal pain, family fears, disrespectful outwardly enacted attitudes, lack of equality and opportunities that are borne by our fellow human companions of colour. Oh God of love may we say and act with honour to uphold all persons as being of worth and beloved. There are turning points in history. They happen as the critical mass of society declares at once from the heart that which is our collective human yearning for our common good. Today is that day. God be with us is my prayer raised up with you. My Client by Christine Galbraith There she was, sitting in her wheelchair. Disabled and alone. Resigned to the fate that has befallen her. Vitality drained from her eyes, a face that had forgotten how to smile. No longer interested in life around her. Her prison, this one room with only memories to keep her company. I knocked gently at her door and called out her name. She was frail. No longer interested in eating or sustaining her existence. I looked at her, hunched over in her sleep, and I knew that this was the reflection of how I felt inside. Feeling useless and forgotten, like all my best days were now behind me. I couldn't help my own despair, but I ached to heal hers, to give her some comfort, a small break from the monotony of her day. To see her smile, engage in conversation, and take her out into the warmth of the sun, even just for a little while. (And maybe I might find some joy in this too.) I see her every day now. She is my official “Lunch Buddy”. The changes in her demeanor are remarkable! Talking, eating (even though its a lot of work), sharing her stories, asking for my help, and yesterday, a smile! 😁 I see hope in her eyes now. Not that her circumstances have changed but hope to enjoy another blessed moment while there is still time. And I thought, if she can make the best out of her situation, then why can't I do the same? My heart may be broken, and I often feel alone, but life can still be good! Because God is good. And I thank Him for all I have. There is a world out there that is meant to be enjoyed! I am not dead yet, so I guess I will just keep moving forward. And have hope to enjoy another blessed moment while there is still time. 💙 |
