On October 4th, 2023 at the age of 81, Donald William Kernohan passed away at the Heart Institute. He is predeceased by his mother Kathleen (Kay) Mary Burris and his father William (Bill) Kernohan who lived in Sudbury, both originally from Madoc, Ontario. Don was born in Sudbury and moved to Ottawa when he got married. He will be greatly missed by his wife Barbara (Barb) Wicksey and his children William (Bill) Kernohan (Samantha), Carolyn Kernohan (Stephen Obsniuk ) and Kevin Kernohan (Sonja Gill ) plus his grandchildren, Justin and Owen Coombs and Riley and Alyssa Kernohan. Each and every one of us spent quality time enjoying his many stories and his sense of humour. Don taught Industrial Arts with the Ottawa Board of Education from 1964 until 1997. His skills and knowledge were passed on to thousands of receptive students at many different schools from grades 6 to 12, including those with special needs. He spent a number of years as a volunteer taking children for a ride in his sidecar at Camp Quality, a camp for kids with cancer. He also participated for many years in the Ride for Dad raising money to fight prostate cancer. Don enjoyed flying and being an amateur ham radio operator (VE3 PUZ). We wish to thank the staff at the Heart Institute for their compassionate care. A private family gathering will be held this Sunday. Memorial donations, in Donald’s name to either Camp Quality Eastern Ontario, or Ride for Dad (Ottawa), or your favourite charity, would be appreciated. |
