My experience at World Conference this year was filled with many highlights and new experiences. I particularly enjoyed the debates in caucus, meeting new friends, and reconnecting with some old ones.
Overall, the sense of community was my favourite. I felt welcomed, respected, and loved by those in attendance—it truly felt like we were all spiritually connected through our fellowship in Christ. There were many moments throughout the week when the presence of the Spirit was so strong it pulled you into appreciating the moment before us. One that comes to mind is when the lovely French Polynesia choir sang at the ordination service of our new prophet-president. It truly warmed my heart to see members from all different nations, races, languages, and orientations come together in love and harmony. It was a historic and truly moving experience for me, and I’m grateful to my grandparents, Doug and Becky Middleton, for letting me come with them and taking care of me. I left feeling inspired and ready to answer what was calling me. I have decided to be baptized, which is something I had been considering for a long time but finally felt the call to do. Thank you to everyone who made the 2025 Community of Christ World Conference meaningful and a joy to be part of. WOW!!! When I look back on my journal entries from my FIRST World Conference, it seems like every sentence ends with an exclamation mark. Yes, at 70 years old, I experienced my first Community of Christ World Conference and it was amazing and wonderful! From visiting with family and friends to meeting new friends from far off lands, it was a week of connection and spiritual experiences.
Little moments like having the question of whether the church would support the call of Stassi Cramm to Prophet President read by Apostles in their own native language, to being introduced to Stassi and having her call me Mom, to hearing Art Smith’s amazing prayer as he ordained Shannon as an Apostle, I am incredibly grateful. And finally, the music—sung in so many languages, from so many different places in the world—and the love, peace, hope, and joy that permeated every session, this experience was spiritually inspiring and hopeful! Join us at Hills of Peace from August 2–7, 2025 for an unforgettable week of community, fun, and spiritual growth! Family Camp and Junior Camp will run in tandem this year to help make the transition easier for our young campers.
Both camps will run their own programming with everyone coming together for the evenings and nights. Please keep in mind that in order for a child to attend Junior Camp, they must have an adult in attendance at Family Camp. So we require everyone to be registered using the Family Camp form. By Shannon McAdam, Field Apostle, CWM Co-President.
As I sit alone in my home office once again, having traveled back from Community of Christ World Conference, I realize I am not really alone. I feel deeply connected to the many people I had the joy of connecting with over the past two weeks. I have many treasured memories already, but today I want to highlight our Wednesday night gathering of Canadians. For me, Wednesday was a busy evening of visiting many different receptions, so it was lovely to walk in to see so many familiar faces. An added joy was being alongside my new partners in ministry: fellow Apostle Lachlan Mackay, and Presidents of Seventy Joelle Wight and Karin Peter. As you said goodbye to Art and hello to our new team, I was touched by the sense of a torch being passed. I am excited to see what awaits us next - together in Canada! We’re excited to invite you to the 2025 Canada West Mission Conference, happening September 12-14 in Chilliwack, BC! Whether you’re joining us for the first time or returning to reconnect, it’s sure to be a weekend full of community, worship, and celebration.
Visit our Conference page to register and find updates about guest ministry, special entertainment, and our hotel booking options in Chilliwack—including a special link to register at the Coast Hotel with our group rate. Kade T. Brown, a member of the Calgary congregation in Canada West Mission Centre, shares his thoughts from attending World Conference at the Kitchener remote site.
My experience in Kitchener attending World Conference has been a very powerful one; and here the Holy Spirit has indeed been evident in great abundance. Some highlights for me include the process prior to President Stassi Cramm’s ordination, where common consent was evident as we discussed this call. Contrastingly, holding discussions which could influence decision-making in my former tradition, the LDS or Mormon Church, was not welcomed. So, being able to have discussions as we do here at World Conference is quite refreshing, especially as a newer member of Community of Christ and a newly ordained priesthood member in this church. What a blessing it was to witness, and participate in, true, honest, and real common consent—especially for such a special office as Prophet-President. Representing Canada through virtually being present to escort Stassi Cramm back into the Conference Chamber after our vote—it was an honour to be able to be part of that once the Conference body made its decision. Another highlight of this Conference was Sister Cramm’s ordination. That service was Spirit-filled, and I feel confident that the church’s future will be bright as we listen and work in the mission of the Lord Jesus Christ, with the guidance of Prophet-President Cramm. Furthermore, I very much appreciate the coming together of members throughout the world to discuss other matters of importance as a denomination. Even when we may not agree, I am grateful that we have the opportunity to listen and contribute. In terms of having a remote site for Canada for future Conferences, this is something I definitely think we should continue to have whenever a World Conference is scheduled. This will be beneficial for a few reasons: 1. This lessens the amount of expense for the mission centres, congregations, and/or individuals, enabling more people to become delegates. 2. Additionally, this makes it possible for those who wish to attend without needing to cross borders. 3. The conference experience is different remotely, though it is still a very full and enriching experience. 4. Moreover, having the availability of remote sites means that if a conference needs to be organized (i.e., for a leadership change), it can be more easily. I do recognize the challenges of these remote sites, such as audio or translation, but as this remote site idea takes off to hopefully become part of the plan in preparation for future World Conferences, those challenges will be solved over time if it becomes a recurring option for Conference. Overall, I am very glad that I could attend this Conference in Kitchener, and I am very hopeful about the future of this church—my spiritual home! May Jesus the Christ lead us, guide us, and walk beside us as we journey together! Amen. Hello from World Conference!
