Courage to Look at Truth & Reconciliation: Returning to Balance

September 16
Join us for an enlightening day retreat (10 am to 5 pm) as we delve deep into the profound effects of colonization and our shared path to Truth and Reconciliation. Presented by Shore Charnoe, BA (hons), ECE, BSW, RSW, this retreat will challenge us to:
  • Decolonize our mindset and foster anti-oppressive practices.
  • Unearth and appreciate the rich Indigenous ways of living our ancestors overlooked.
  • Rediscover the history, traditions, and wisdom of this land's original inhabitants, learning from their harmonious relationship with nature and each other, long before colonization.
  • Come, be part of this journey towards understanding, compassion, and forging a new way forward.
Our guest presenter Shore Charnoe, founder of The Circle for Change, has dedicated her life to nurturing regenerative connective cultural practices, aiming to co-create a healthier planet for future generations. Programs under her guidance incorporate nature connection, indigenous traditional knowledge, and storytelling, fostering individual healing and growth. With a private counseling practice since 1994, Shore has spearheaded various community programs focusing on at-risk youth, covering areas from suicide prevention to adoption facilitation. Having fostered and mentored over 100 children, she attributes much of her wisdom to teachings from numerous Indigenous Elders, particularly under the guidance of the revered Odawa Medewin Elder Eddie King. Her academic pursuits in Indigenous Social Work have been enriched by influential figures such as Anishinaabe Elders Banakonda Kennedy-Kish (Bell) and Basil Johnson, as well as Mohawk Nation's Katsitsiase and Holocaust survivor Ben Carniol.

Noronto Reunion was first held September 2nd - 4th, 1961, and remains a significant experience for church members to this day, with week-long camps being held almost every year, in the month of August.  Situated on the scenic shores of Lake Nipissing, Noronto Reunion is always an opportunity to experience the broader church community, to rekindle friendships, to recharge, and become closer to God.  Noronto Reunion often feels like a chance to get a glimpse of Zion, and experience firsthand the potential of the Peaceable Kingdom.
All are welcome to attend Noronto Reunion and share with us in inspiring classes, spiritual worship services, great fellowship, fun electives, awesome food, thought provoking conversations, intriguing information sessions, joyful campfires, and of course the chance to just rejuvenate.
