History
Saskatoon Congregation
The first services
were held in the Saskatoon area at the Gendron
homestead by Elder Alvin Knisley in 1904. Then
in 1906 an organization meeting was held 16 miles
southeast of Saskatoon. The committee named it
the Iowa Branch and Elder John Beckman was the
elected president. In 1908 the first Sunday
School was organized but it was 1915 when "Religio",
a literary organization that was very popular with
young people mainly to study the Book of
Mormon, was organized. |

| There
were 82 members enrolled in the branch.
In 1909 delegates
were elected for district conference which was held
in a tent on Main Street in Saskatoon. In 1917
the church building was built at Floral, near the
Paul Schmidt farm. In 1926 it was moved to the
location of Main Street and Dufferin Avenue,
in Saskatoon. The first service was held in the
churches' present location of First Street and
Dufferin Avenue, April 21, 1957 after a very
dedicated effort to raise the funds for the
construction. |
