Spectacular (SPEC)

Each year approximately 1000 sixteen-nineteen-year-old campers and 200 adult staff from all over Australia, Canada, Europe, French Polynesia, Great Britain and the United States converge on Graceland University(external link) in Lamoni, Iowa(external link) for a week-long Spectacular experience.

With sports (volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball, tennis, table tennis, racquetball, wrestling, swimming, track, golf, aerobics), crafts, fine arts, classes (from theology to photography), devotions, worship, talent show, and a service project – there is definitely something for everyone!

A tradition since the early 1970s, Spectacular remains a very popular event with the youth in the Canadian mission centres, which provide financial support to ensure as many kids as possible can enjoy this unique experience. In recent years, the kids from Canada West have travelled to Ontario, then the entire 40-person "Team Canada" delegation travels by coach to Iowa (the 2-day trip is part of the experience!)

What You Need to Know

Who is eligible to go to SPEC?

Campers must have completed one of grades 10 - 12 (i.e. age 16-19) in the year they wish to go to SPEC

What are the dates for the next SPEC?

Spectacular 2012 is scheduled for July 21-28, which means you would need to plan to be away for July 20-Jul 30, 2012

What do I have to do to sign up?

Download the 2012 SPEC Camper Information Package (sorry, {filelink} broken) which has all the registration forms needing to be filled in, and start saving your loonies...

When is the registration deadline?

No registrations will be accepted after June 15, 2012

How much does it cost?

Registration is C$450 (C$400/sibling, C$400/1st-time camper to SPEC) and you should plan on another C$60+ for meals and spending money.
