Canada West - Youth Camp 2012

Camping is an important part of our church's community and a highlight of many of our summers. Camps provide an opportunity for a week (or so) of retreat from the busyness of our work lives, a chance to build meaningful, life-long relationships, and an opportunity for us to deepen our spiritual connections and grow in our discipleship.

Because we do not have a director for Jr High Camp at the moment, but do not want the Jr High campers to miss out on a camp experience, we have decided to combine Jr High and Sr High camp this year. Also, because we are interested in growing our camping program and for camps to be able to continue in the future, we are making an intentional effort to recruit, train and develop future camp leadership. So, we are inviting Young Adults to attend as well. in an attempt to ensure that people of all ages have an opportunity to attend camp, now and in the future, and to ensure that we have trained leadership to run these events, we are going to try a different sort of camping experience for youth this summer.

This summer, all Jr High age campers (ages 11-14), Sr High age campers (ages 15-18) and Young Adults (between the ages of 18-21) are invited to attend Canada West - Youth Camp 2012 . This camp will take place during the first week of July 1-7 at Hills of Peace Campground.

At camp, you'll get to participate in all the usual camp classes, worships, and fun activities. There will be some activities that all three age groups will participate in together but there will also be separate classes and activities designed specifically for each age group. The Jr High campers will have certain classes and staff designated especially for them. The Sr High campers will have certain classes and staff designated especially for them. The Young Adults will have classes and staff designated especially for them BUT these YA classes will be focused on leadership training and development to begin to mentor and train future camp and church leaders within the Canada West Mission Centre. We hope that the Young Adults who come and participate in this training and development will then have gained skills and experience to help them in future camp leadership opportunities (and have experience that will help them in other areas of leadership in the Community of Christ). We are especially inviting Young Adults with a desire to serve.

YOUTH CAMP 2012 is a great opportunity for Youth and Young Adults ages 11-21 to come to camp, make a whole bunch of new friends, learn more about themselves and their faith, gain some new skills, and have a really great time with lots of awesome activities. If you have any questions about this YOUTH CAMP 2012 experience, please don't hesitate to contact Rachelle Smalldon (Email Rachelle or 587-920-6330).

If you are 21 or older and you would be interested in being a part of this camp community as staff, please let Rachelle know of your interest to serve as well. We need lots of dedicated leadership to make this camp experience a success, so if you are interested in helping out, offering your experience in classes for youth or leadership classes for the Young Adults - I would love to hear from you.

I hope you will decide to attend YOUTH CAMP 2012 (July 1-7) this summer and encourage the youth you know of to be a part of this camp community!! Registration forms will be out SOON!
